Why is San Antonio Homicide Crime Lower?

October 26, 2026 · El Conservador

The liberal San Antonio news media is applauding the current trend in the number of homicides in the city this year. Liberals and leftists are claiming this shows that the city does not need to hire more police officers, nor does it need more jail space.

The Numbers Tell the Story

However, this drop in the city's crime is due to a crucial factor that the local liberal news media and leftist leaders of San Antonio will never acknowledge: the closed border and the deportation of illegal aliens.

There were 231 murders in San Antonio in 2022, which was the highest ever recorded. The liberal news media and leftist politicians blamed the COVID-19 epidemic for the violence.

This year, in 2026, the San Antonio Police reported sixty-six homicides from January to September, which is down 20% from the eighty-three during the same period in 2025, and a total of 106 homicides at the end of the year. The last time the city was under one hundred homicides was in 2015 when SAPD logged ninety-four cases.

The Open Border Years

However, the highest number of murders, 231, happened in 2022, with another 165 in 2023. It should NOT be a surprise that these two years were during the Biden Open Border period.

Since the Trump Administration began securing the border and cracking down illegal immigration, the number of homicides in San Antonio has dropped dramatically to 127 in 2024 and 106 in 2025. It is apparent that a secure border also means public safety for citizens in San Antonio.

Besides securing the border against illegal alien criminals, illegal aliens are also fearful of arrest and deportation in the cities.

A Secure Border Means Safer Communities

The facts are clear: a secure border and controlled immigration have translated into a safer San Antonio.

Now if the citizens of San Antonio and Bexar County can also stop their local elected officials like SA Mayor Gina Ortiz-Jones and Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales from being uncooperative with federal immigration law enforcement, the city would be safer.

A secure border means safer communities. Sadly, the liberal local news media and the leftist city leaders will never admit or mention this.
