On Wednesday, May 7, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department Organized Crime Unit arrested five suspects, including one suspected member of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, for human smuggling. The human smuggling operation was based in Mexico and involved smugglers who circumvented Border Patrol highway checkpoints to reach the interior of the United States.

The joint law enforcement investigation began in 2023 and included the Border Patrol’s Laredo Sector intelligence branch. The arrests occurred in San Antonio in the 3700 block of West Avenue and the 200 block of Oriole Lane in the Alamo City.

San Antonio continues to feel the effects of Biden’s open borders, and the migrant center that hosted hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens.

While the Bexar County Organized Crime Unit helped the federal agents carry out the investigations and arrests, the San Antonio Police Department’s vice unit, which could have assisted, has been abolished because of manpower shortages. This is another example of how the anti-police attitude that many city leaders have impacts public safety.

Illegal alien criminals are in San Antonio’s neighborhoods, and the citizens and taxpayers deserve the complete protection of federal, state, and local law enforcement.
