Third Arrest for San Antonio Repeat Offender Erik Cantu
Erik Cantu, the man who was shot multiple times by a former San Antonio police officer in 2022 and was portrayed as a victim by the local news, was rearrested on Friday, May 9, for a third time. This case epitomizes the liberal/leftist administration of justice practiced by George Soros-funded Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales that lets repeat offenders go free.
On October 2, 2022, Erik Cantu was shot by SAPD officer James Brennand during a confrontation in a McDonald’s parking lot.
On June 28, 2023, Cantu and his girlfriend were arrested and charged with theft at a local Walmart.
In November 2024, Cantu was rearrested after prosecutors said he repeatedly violated the terms of his community supervision in a pair of felony evading arrest cases.
Cantu was arrested on Friday, May 9, 2025, in the most recent arrest, on a charge of evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
Cantu was granted seven years of deferred adjudication in September 2024 following two evading arrest charges. The terms of his probation explicitly barred him from driving for at least two years. However, Cantu was driving illegally and fleeing from the police.
How many arrests and crimes does DA Gonzales tolerate by one person? Does Cantu have to kill an innocent person while fleeing the police at high speeds before the DA starts taking this thug’s crimes seriously?
On the other hand, former SAPD officer James Brennand was charged and prosecuted by liberal DA Gonzales with discreet advice from a liberal/leftist Austin group called the Wren Collective. SAPD fired Brennand, and since he was a probationary officer, he cannot appeal his firing in arbitration if he is acquitted.
Brennand is one of several SAPD officers whom the DA has charged with civil rights violations. Those who have moved forward towards trials have had them dismissed or been acquitted.
The soft-on-crime/war-on-police administration of justice by liberals and leftists, notably by George Soros-funded DA Gonzales. His release of repeat offenders endangers citizens and emboldens the criminals, and his prosecution of police officers demoralizes them.
San Antonio and Bexar County citizens need a District Attorney who will protect them from criminals, not defend them from law enforcement and justice.
